At Mightyburns Bulls, we’re on a mission to breed healthier, happier French Bulldogs through DNA-testing, ethical breeding plus our DVL2 and CDDY Elimination Program.

We are a very experienced & health focused registered French Bulldog breeder following the Australian Veterinary Association Brachycephalic Breeding policy. We are the home of West Australias first screwtail gene (DVL2) elimination puppies.

We are very proud to be apart of the Master Dog Breeders and Associates genetic action plan for the DVL2 elimination program!! We have been working together with the MDBA and a handful of other like minded breeders to eliminate the screw tail gene (DVL2). This is part of the MDBA’s genetic action plan for Brachycephalic Breeds which is going to be of huge benefit to the future of the French Bulldog. The screwtail gene doesn’t only affect the tail and spine, there are so many other benefits that will also come from eliminating this gene. 

The main goal and vision for my breeding programme has always - and will always be focused around the health of my dogs and the dogs i produce. I am hoping to be able to produce some DVL2 cleared dogs in the very near future! We are also working on eliminating the CDDY gene, which is the chromosome responsible for early onset of degenerative conditions in the intervertabral discs (IVDD). More specifically, it is linked to an FGF4 retrogene insertion on chromosome 12.

This genetic insertion has been strongly associated with Hansen Type I IVDD, a form of disc disease where intervertebral discs degenerate early and may rupture or herniate. IVDD is a serious condition that can cause pain, nerve compression, mobility issues, and in severe cases, paralysis.

Selective breeding can reduce IVDD risk when CDDY is properly managed and breeding away from DVL2 has been proven to reduce extreme structural traits linked to spinal anomalies.

That's why we feel it's so important to remove BOTH cddy AND dvl2. I know alot of people dont like tails with the dvl2 gene or the pointier ears with the cddy clears but unfortunately that's part of the parcel in which ive now learned how to embrace. Now we know better, we will always do better.
